The Scoop: Promoting Gender Diversity & Ice Cream
My team was faced with the challenge of designing an exhibition that sought to create a change.
Gender is complicated. Society often fails to acknowledge that there is a lot more to how we identify our gender than just being male or female. The Scoop seeks to promote gender diversity through the power of ice cream. We all enjoy having more than two options for flavors of ice cream, so why wouldn’t we want everyone to be able to have choices when defining their gender.
STORE FRONT (EXTERIOR)
The Scoop is meant to be an exhibition that works with existing ice cream shops to create a unique and informative experience within existing spaces. The “Ice Cream Makes You Happy” that occupies the store window has been altered to embrace the theme of celebrating gender diversity.
The Scoop uses bright colors and playful patterns to take an inviting approach to a complex topic. The concept of diversity is reinforced further through the variety of wrapper options.
The playful spirit of The Scoop translates to apparel and stickers that are available in-store. Merch with designs associated with the exhibition and B.Y.O.C (build your own cone) stickers, could be spotted around town and would help spread the word about the celebration of gender diversity.
FIELD GUIDE / PUNCH CARD
Guests walk away with a field guide that continues to educate on the ideas of gender diversity. They can gain more information about the exhibition and up coming events that are being hosted. Exhibition guests have the opportunity to pick up a punch card that allows them to punch away gender stereotypes.
For children, The Scoop promotes the idea of embracing diversity in a more general sense. Coloring pages on the tables allow them to color their own cone any way that they want and decide what their flavor is.
PROMO POSTERS & VIDEO
Have a sudden craving for ice cream? It’s probably because you saw one of our posters around town! This poster series and video raises awareness throughout the city about our exhibition and promotes upcoming events hosted by The Scoop.

This project was extremely collaborative. I worked with my team to develop the concept, visual style, and execution of elements.
